DNA testing, also more frequently known as paternity testing is a scientific process which can positively identify relationships between people. It is most commonly used to establish if a man is the true biological father of a child but it can also be used in the analysis of more complex relationships such as sibling testing, grand parents and grand children etc.
In paternity cases when a mother, child and father are tested, we will either exclude the man with 100% certainty, or provide a probability of paternity in excess of 99.9999%.
All we require is a swab taken from the inside of the mouth. The swab is then sent to the lab and we obtain the result within 48 hours. Our testing is done through Cellmark who pioneered the introduction of DNA analysis for paternity testing and were the first private paternity testing laboratory in the UK.
Cellmark are a repatable testing company who are accredited by the Ministry of Justice as a body that may carry out parentage tests as directed by the civil courts in England and Wales under section 20 of the Family Law Reform Act 1969.
If you would like to arrange DNA testing, please contact Cellmark in the first instance and then allow a few days before making an appointment with Newcastle Health to allow enough time for us to receive the sampling kit from Cellmark.
